Why Standard Sizes Are a Starting Point, Not a Rule

Furniture manufacturers tend to cluster around the same handful of sizes for each category, which is why ranges like these are useful — but every brand varies, and a single model can fall outside the typical range entirely. Use this calculator to sanity-check a piece before you buy, or to get a rough footprint while you're still planning a room, not as a substitute for the exact dimensions on the product page.

Checking the Room, Not Just the Piece

A furniture piece that's a standard size can still be the wrong choice for a specific room. Pair this with the free HOMEQIA Furniture Clearance Calculator to check the walkway and clearance space around it, or our guide on choosing furniture that actually fits your room for the full picture.

Planning a Full Room Layout

If you're furnishing an entire room from scratch, the free HOMEQIA Smart Room Planner builds a full layout — furniture sizes, rug size and a visual diagram — starting from your room's dimensions instead of one piece at a time.

What is a standard sofa size?

A 2-seat loveseat runs about 58–72 in long, a standard 3-seat sofa 72–90 in, and a 4-seat or larger sofa 90–112 in — all measured end to end including the arms.

How do I find the right TV stand size for my TV?

A good rule of thumb is a stand about 20% wider than your TV's actual width (not the diagonal screen size). This calculator converts your TV's diagonal size to its approximate width and recommends a matching stand width.

What size coffee table goes with my sofa?

A coffee table that's about two-thirds the length of your sofa usually looks proportional and still leaves 14–18 in of clearance on each side for walking and reaching.

Are these furniture sizes exact requirements?

No — these are standard ranges most furniture is manufactured within, not exact requirements. Always check the specific product's listed dimensions before buying, and measure your doorways and hallways for delivery.
